Death, taxes and international breaks.  Thankfully, the end is near and GW8 is looming upon us.  So, what have we learnt so far this season? City look like they aren’t going to give up their title easily and will look to cement themselves as we head towards Christmas.  Chelsea and Liverpool look to be the nearest challengers with the FPL Monster that is Salah (12.6m) proving once again that he can and will score against anyone.  If you were to set + forget auto-captain him this year you would have amassed a total of 140 points. I don’t think he will be leaving anyone’s team in the near future.  So where does the variance come from? We have 87.4m left to pick a further 14 players in our squads.

GW8 SUGGESTIONS

Chelsea Fixture Swing

Much of the focus this week will look towards a GW8 Wildcard.  Players would have targeted Gameweek 8 as a potential time to activate this chip with a few fixture swings in mind.  Most notably, Chelsea have a nice sea of green’s on the fixture ticker with games against BRE, NOR, NEW and BUR coming in the next 4. Having only conceded 3 goals this season (tied at 1st with MCI), wildcarders will look to a defensive double up this week.  Players who brought in Alonso (6.0m) recently were burned in GW7 with Tuchel electing to go with Ben Chillwell (5.6m) at LWB instead for his first appearance of the season in a game which saw the out-of-favour Englishman notch a goal and come away with 8pts last week. So who are the best Chelsea defenders to target? Azpilicueta (6.1m) + Rudiger (5.8m) seem to be the most nailed of picks but maybe not as exciting as others.  Reece James at 5.5m could be value as his return from injury looms. Lukaku (11.7m) will be sure to be the premium striking option amongst many wildcarders this week when players will hope he improves on his 3 goals this term (xGi – expected goal involvement 4.06).

Pep Roulette

Players may decide to target City asset’s now that their fixture run improves (BUR, BRI, CRY in next 3) with a potential defensive double up in Dias (6.1m) and Cancelo (6.2m) proving to be popular.  As always, picking City attacking options seems as difficult as the lottery numbers with Pep deciding to always keep us guessing. Jack Grealish (7.9m) has been an ever-present in Guardiola’s starting XI this year and may prove to be a cheap way into the City attack yet his underlying numbers aren’t overly encouraging with a solitary goal and assist in the previous 7 games.  With the imminent return of the Belgian Kevin DeBruyne (11.9m), an influx of transfers beckons.  However, other options such as Torres (6.9m), Foden (7.0m) and Mahrez (8.7m) may cheaper inroads to the city points machine.

Other teams to potentially target that will benefit off a fixture swing this week include Arsenal, Leeds and Southampton in particular.  The Gunners have seemed to improved remarkably in the last 3 games and players such as Ramsdale (4.5m), White (4.6m) and Saka (6.3m) may prove to be popular picks this week.  Illan Meslier (5.0m) could be a shrewd pick amongst wildcarders as Leeds face SOU, WOL and NOR in their next three and as we know from last year he is a shot magnet having amassed a whopping 141 saves last year.  Bamford (7.8m) and Raphina (6.6m) are other options players may turn to this week.  Livramento (4.2m) seems to be the best 5th defender/bench enabler with the right back impressing early on this campaign. Others may look to new boy Armstrong (6.0m) in attack to front the goals for Saints moving forward. A team that many will begin to offload a lot of their assets will be Manchester United with LEI,LIV,TOT,MCI and CHE coming in the next 6 games. Popular assets such as Ronaldo (12.6M), Shaw (5.5m) and Greenwood (7.6m) will be predicted to be heavily sold amongst wildcarders this week.

Players Returning from International Games

It has been suggested that certain countries would have players who would not have been eligible to play for their clubs in GW8 due to COVID restrictions.  Keep an eye out on twitter this week.  Popular FPL picks such as Raphina (6.6m), Jesus (8.6m) and Martinez (5.5m) may be subject to strict quarantining rules meaning wildcarders may want to avoid in their squads this week.  Even if protocols are waived, games will see Argentina and Brazil play at 00.30am and 01.30am respectively on Fri 15th  meaning players may have between 24-48hrs to travel and recover before their GW8 fixture kicks off.

Differentials to Target (Players with <15%TSB)

Differential - Hueng Min Son 13.3% - Newcastle on the horizon, could prove a big scorer in GW8 after his 10 and 7 in the previous two games vs Arsenal and Villa respectively.

Huge Differential -Phil Foden 2.0% - Remarkably only 2% owned Phil notched a tasty 7 pointer in the draw at Anfield and once again shown how important a player he is to City. A home game against Burnley awaits and if picked it may see him amongst the goals once again.

Extreme Differential - Mohamed Elyounoussi 0.2% Played x4 90mins prior to the trip to Stamford Bridge and if selected vs Leeds and is in the points could prove massive in your climb up the ranks in your mini leagues.
